The St. Louis Cardinals’ offense was largely quiet in a loss Saturday to Colorado, while the Chicago Cubs ran off a fourth-straight win.

St. Louis was led offensively by the work of shortstop Jhonny Peralta, who launched his 16th home run of the season in backing right-hander Lance Lynn, who was less-than-stellar in front of the home faithful.

In other news around the league, the Chicago Cubs ran off a fourth-straight victory, topping the Milwaukee Brewers on the road. First baseman Anthony Rizzo hit a homer for the fourth-straight contest, pulling the Cubs within a distant 9 1/2 games of first in the NL Central.

In the National League East, the New York Mets pulled within a game of the first-place Washington Nationals thanks to a big night at the plate by first baseman Lucas Duda, who homered twice.

More from Redbird Rants

Carlos Correa and Dallas Keuchel led the Houston Astros to a big 9-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks and, in the American League East, news of the impending departure of Larry Lucchino as president of the Boston Red Sox broke.

Two of the biggest names to change hands ahead of the July 31 deadline, Cole Hamels and Ben Zobrist, stole the show in their respective markets on Saturday, as well, with the latter clubbing a pair of homers for Kansas City.

Hamels, meanwhile, was not exactly ace-like in his first start since throwing a no-hitter agains the Cubs one week earlier. The veteran southpaw, making his Texas Rangers debut, was roughed up for five earned runs on 7 2/3 innings in a loss to the San Francisco Giants.
