With the Baseball Winter Meetings already behind us, one of the frequently asked questions is: could the St. Louis Cardinals add another pitcher?

While many Cardinals fans would surely clamor for Detroit Tigers free agent and St. Louis native Max Scherzer, the likelihood of such an addition is slim to none. As things stand right now, the Cardinals will head to Jupiter for Spring Training with a rotation consisting of Adam Wainwright, Lance Lynn, Michael Wacha, John Lackey, and Carlos Martinez. Jaime Garcia is the biggest question mark of all while Marco Gonzales could crack the rotation or make some spot starts by the end of the season.
MLB.com beat writer Jenifer Langosch tackled the question recently:
"The Cardinals have not ruled out adding another starting pitcher in order to enhance their depth. It could be someone trying to prove himself healthy after injury or someone the Cardinals believe is a candidate for a bounce-back season. It was this sort of intent that led them to reliever Pat Neshek last winter. Any pursuit of another starter would likely not involve the Cardinals committing significant guaranteed dollars."
I think it’s unlikely given the depth in the organization at the moment.
