5 additional changes Cardinals can make after bringing back beloved navy hats

After years of clamoring from the fanbase, the Cardinals have answered our prayers. Effective tomorrow and for the rest of the season, the navy caps are back as the primary road cap. Only on Saturdays will the Cardinals not where the navy caps on the road, as they still have the powder blue uniforms for that occasion.

A few weeks ago, the team did a survey for fans to complete and share their thoughts on what the team's uniforms should be. The main thing featured was whether or not the Cardinals should go back to the navy caps on the road or stick with the red hats. The navy hats won in a landslide.

However, that wasn't the only thing featured. In this piece, we will go over some of the other things included in the uniform survey and what the Cardinals could then do with the results.

Powder blues at home instead of on the road

A week before the survey, the Cardinals actually wore the powder blue uniforms for a home game, and they won in resounding fashion over the Reds. This was something that the team surveyed fans on.

To give my take on it, I personally loved seeing them where the blue uniforms at home, and I actually think they look better at Busch Stadium than they do in opposing ballparks. There's just something that's very St. Louis about them, and I think it's best to show off the iconic shade of blue at home in front of the fans so the crowd can see them regularly without having to take a road trip. I think making these the Saturday home uniforms would be a good idea.

Now, that leaves a question about the off-white Saturday jerseys, which are some of my personal favorites. I do not think the Cardinals should stop wearing these jerseys, but rather, they should just pick a different day to wear them, which ties into more of what I'll say in this piece about what they should do with their uniforms.

Make the Sunday hats more prominent

On home Sundays, the Cardinals wear the navy hat with the red brim and a bird on the bat logo instead of the regular "STL". In the survey, fans were asked to choose between the Sunday hat and the regular hat. Granted, I really love the regular hat, and it's my personal favorite. But I chose the Sunday hat just to change things up a little bit.

Like I said, I love the red hat. It's iconic, and it is my personal favorite, but the Cardinals have basically always gone with the red hat at home throughout their history, with the exception of Sundays. But I think the Sunday cap is cool as well and should be featured more prominently. It's just as iconic as the red cap, and it also brings a change of pace, which I think would be good for the Cardinals. We've seen Chaim Bloom make a lot of other changes. Why not make this one as well?

I don't think they should completely phase out the red cap though. It still fits nice with the regular home whites, the powder blues and the off-whites, so they shouldn't get rid of it. But it would be nice to see a little change of pace.

Off-white jerseys on Fridays or Sundays

This was not included in the survey, but I think having Friday and Saturday be alternate uniform days for the Cardinals is a good idea. Like I said when talking about the powder blues on Saturdays, the cream-colored uniforms are some of my favorites. But I personally am not a huge fan of the City Connects being worn on Fridays. I don't know why I feel that way about this, but there's just something special about the regular red cap on a Friday.

If the Cardinals ever were to make the Sunday hat the regular hat, they could also shift the off-white jerseys to Sundays since the other cap wouldn't be specific to that day anymore.

Replace the City Connects with a red alternate jersey

This might be an unpopular take, and that's fine with me, but I feel like the City Connect uniforms have kind of lost their touch. That's not to say I don't like them. They're cool in their own way, but a lot of teams' city uniforms are just too basic and I'm honestly not a fan of a lot of them. The Cardinals' city uniforms are different for me because I do think they're cool and it is a Cardinals uniform after all.

A couple of months ago, I had a piece about what I thought the Cardinals should do with their uniforms, and this was long before they even considered the change back to the navy hats. But in that video, I included a link to an old trailer for MVP Baseball 2005, which featured Albert Pujols on the cover.

In that video, Pujols is taking batting practice in a red jersey that just says "Cardinals." I had one of these jerseys as a kid and never understood why they only used it for batting practice at the time, let alone phase it out years later.

I'd like to see this jersey come back as the red alternate. I think just for certain games, home or road, the Cardinals should bust these out. Again, it's nothing against the City Connect uniforms, but I think it's time to do something a little bit different and for the Cardinals to go back to their roots.

Keep the City Connect hats

For all of the talk of getting rid of the City Connect uniforms I've had, there is still one piece that I think should be kept for certain home games: the hat. I have a City Connect hat that I bought shortly after the uniforms were released, and let me just say that I think that part is spectacular.

It's basic, sure, but it's a departure from the regular "STL" logo. The font is different, and it's a nice change of pace. I honestly think these would look great with the regular home white uniforms on certain days. Perhaps the Cardinals can keep that piece for Friday home games.

These are all just ideas. I'm sure people will disagree on the Sunday hats being more prominent and the City Connects being phased out, but that's why we have discussions in the first place. It's what led to the navy caps being restored after all.

Who knows? More changes could be coming that fans actually want to see.
