The St. Louis Cardinals are playing yet again in a game being broadcast via Facebook and I, for one, hate it.
The St. Louis Cardinals take on the Milwaukee Brewers today, Wednesday, in what should be labeled “Reyes Gate” with the return of Alex Reyes to the mound. This game brings with it immense promise and rightfully so. Unfortunately, however, the game is broadcast on Facebook.
Look, I love me some Jason Motte but the poor sucker is stuck with other horrible commentators. I also love the St. Louis Cardinals and would honest watch them in any format that I can, but I find the Facebook broadcasts to be abhorrent.
Before diving further in this complaint (which I will try to keep from becoming lengthy) let me admit that I do admire MLB’s attempts at engaging younger viewers and reaching them via a platform that they utilize. That said, like others who have complained on Twitter, I find myself wondering if the younger generation is actually engaged through Facebook…?
Back to the complaining. In addition to despising the announcing, the fact that Facebook freezes so frequently takes away from the ability to enjoy the masterwork that is Alex Reyes. In the first batter faced, Reyes pitched three strikes for an out. I saw one of them thanks to freezing. And all while the top of the first had zero problems.

I also dislike the graphic interface of the Facebook games. I do not enjoy the box in the top right corner wherein Facebook marks the outs in a way that looks similar to the base and runner markings.
And hold the press… We’ve had a replay. And, like everything else, Facebook screws this up as well by placing boxes over parts of the replay. How the hell am I supposed to see the replay when you slap boxes over it?!
Lastly, going back to the announcers, can we please get them to practice? The stuttering sounds far too similar to the first year announcing that Jim Edmonds showed when he joined FS-Midwest.
As though the stuttering and “ums” are not enough, the poor attempt at comedic banter is insufferable.
One inning in and I’m already watching on mute. Well, sh*t, Facebook screwed that up too. Mute forces closed captioning to activate instantly. Guess I’m watching with the volume all the way down to one so I don’t hear anything and so I don’t have to see closed captioning.

The one positive of Facebook games? No commercials. But even that I can complain about as Facebook floods the time where commercials would exist with mindless stories and attempts at being cool by showing instagram videos.
