The St. Louis Cardinals are due to announce “several” moves before first pitch today or so says the GM Mozeliak.

The St. Louis Cardinals need to make changes. We all know it. Mozeliak knows it. I’m not sold that Mike Matheny and John Mabry know it but that’s a different subject altogether. But what changes, or “moves” as Mozeliak said are coming?

Here’s the quick and dirty: Mozeliak said this morning during an interview on KMOX that the organization is making multiple moves today but- at the time of the recording- that he wouldn’t share the details because he hadn’t yet spoken to the players affected. This tells me that we could be looking at multiple different outcomes.

These could well include DFA, trade, promotions, demotions, and/or trade(s). Before I share with you my thoughts, have a look at the tweet that alerted all of us in Cardinals Nation of the impending moves:

Reading this made me immediately think of Greg Garcia. I like the dude and have praised him here at Redbird Rants, but his recent performance(s) have led to the thought that he is holding a spot that another, more-qualified player could feel. If a move is coming for Garcia, since he lacks options, he would be the first candidate for DFA.

Next, my mind went to Yadier Molina. We know that Yadi’s knees are aching him. This, accompanied by Mozeliak’s comments, makes me think that Yadi is DL-bound. In that wake, it would not surprise me to see Carson Kelly rise to the majors. I agree with Larry’s post from today that the time is neigh for the call-up.

More from St Louis Cardinals News

Another name that makes a lot of sense to me for a “move” would be Paul DeJong. I have written recently that DeJong is certainly up for a trade audition and perhaps Mozeliak has finally pulled the trigger on one. I have no rumor as to who will be landed in a trade but if one is being made then DeJong makes sense to be on the move.

Another name yet that makes sense to me today is another call-up of Magneuris Sierra. If this happens, then I believe the St. Louis Cardinals will make this a permanent thing.

From earlier rumors, we know that Randal Grichuk is on his way back to the St. Louis Cardinals. This might mean that Tommy Pham is moving or maybe Stephen Piscotty is DL-bound too. We haven’t seen a lot of injury news about Piscotty but his output hasn’t been desired of late and perhaps he is nursing an injury.

Last, I would LOVE for Mozeliak to be making a change to the coaching staff again, but I don’t believe this will happen. I don’t believe this is happening because of the comment that players haven’t been notified. This doesn’t change the fact that coaching changes SHOULD be made.

What moves would you make? What moves do you think are coming? Let me know on Twitter and stay tuned as we will post news as soon as it is released!
