St. Louis Cardinals: Hilarious hashtag reminding of Cardinals moments

I love Twitter and especially all things St. Louis Cardinals related on Twitter. A new hilarious hashtag is circulating reminding of great Cardinals moments.

The Internet is a great place for resources, information, and the proverbial porn. In recent years, Twitter has taken over as the go-to location for news and updates and I find Twitter to be the best place to catch St. Louis Cardinals news on the fly and as quick as it appears. In recent days, a new hashtag has circulated that has me laughing uncontrollably.

The new hashtag is none other than #cardsporn. If you haven’t searched Twitter for this, you are missing out. I would recommend that you finish reading this post and then jump over and check out this hashtag. Don’t worry, I’ll include several of these tweets in this post.

Quick note: this post will be rated PG-13, so bear that in mind as you progress through the post. While I will share many of the tweets, I will focus much on the moments these indicate rather than the tweets themselves.

Hilarious, no? Twitter is one heck of a creative outlet.

My favorites in this series are those that point to great St. Louis Cardinals moments. Let me take you through a few.

If you don’t know the famous radio call from Mike Shannon then you cannot call yourself a real St. Louis Cardinals fan. For those who don’t know it, or for those who want to relive the glory of the call, here’s a snip:

The next #cardporn and moment that I adore is “Grab your Ankiels” by one of my favorite twitter follows– @CardsCards. Dude is hilarious. I particularly like this iteration of the hashtag as it points to one of my favorite Cardinals, Rick Ankiel.

Ankiel was an amazing pitcher who ran into a brick wall of the yips and ultimately lost his ability to throw from the mound. In his early days, Ankiel was a sure-fire win on the mound but this deteriorated quickly. Here’s a look at Ankiel’s pitching career:

When his arm lost its ability to throw from the mound, Ankiel- who had an outstanding bat- transitioned to the outfield. In my memory, likely because he is my favorite Cardinal of all time, Jim Edmonds may be the only other outfielder on the St. Louis Cardinals with an arm that came near the abilities or strength that Ankiel possessed.

Here’s two of the best throws that Ankiel tossed from the outfield. Note the fly time and the ability to throw directly to the base from the distance without the aid of the bounce.

Wow, right? The next #cardsporn hashtag that I love is from @jmg092609. He cleverly made a tweet about Dexter Fowler‘s ability and Matt Carpenter‘s ability to manufacture base hits via slams to through gaps. He says, “Carp and Fowler really pounding the gap.”

Let’s a have a look at Fowler’s ability to slash and push through the gaps:

Notice all those green dots just through the gap between first and second and those between short stop and third. In the same thinking then, have a look at Carpenter’s spray chart:

Notice that Carpenter is certainly a pull hitter but manages to find ways to manipulate the right side gap. Now that Carpenter has returned to the lead-off slot, his production is improving. Fowler- to his credit- hasn’t lost too much of his production by moving to the number two slot. For more on Carpenter’s return to the lead-off, jump over and read Shane’s recent post.
