The Trade Package
According to the Rockies SB Nation website this week, Gonzalez will command a huge package in light of the Heyward signing. The Rockies won’t let an aging slugger walk out of the door without bringing a large package home. We are talking about 2-3 pitchers and a bat or two. You could send Colorado native Marco Gonzales home if he clears a physical. Tim Cooney is ready to start for a big league team.
More from St Louis Cardinals Rumors
- Cardinals: Free-agent Cody Bellinger hitting with Matt Holliday
- Cardinals: Pros and cons of free agent targets for St. Louis
- Cardinals: Alex Reyes and Delvin Perez should be cautionary tales
- Cardinals: One move they don’t want to see each NL contender make
- Cardinals: 6 stars St. Louis should trade for this off-season
If you don’t want to sacrifice Alex Reyes, Mo will have to give up a Luke Weaver or Austin Gomber. The latter is a 22 year old southpaw who just completed his first full minor league season and garnered 15 wins and 144 strikeouts. Maybe toss in Adams as a sweetener, and see what his bat/power could do in Coors.
Maybe The Rockies ask about Kolten Wong, but I doubt it comes to that. The Rockies will want pitching to rebuild their rotation and bullpen. What if they asked for Kevin Siegrist, a person with starting and closing potential? The price for Gonzalez will be steep but it could be finally bring the Cards a dangerous hitter and finally force Mozeliak to part with some of his cherished toys.
