It has certainly been “a weak week” for the St. Louis Cardinals and for their (NOT very) long-suffering fans.  Anyone who would call Cardinals fans “long-suffering” would complain about the weather in San Diego.  That said, “the drumbeats of discord” have begun along The Big River.

The St. Louis Cardinals are hovering at .500; only 1.5 games off the top of the NL Central after forty-five games… yet “drumbeats” are starting for “cleaning house” in (1) the bull pen, (2) the top of the order, (3) the dugout… did I see one certifiably “batty birds’ fan” demanding Bill DeWitt sell the ballclub to Stan Kroenke? WHOA!

Today’s title is a takeoff of a book about The French & Indian War – Drums Along The Mohawk.  In 1752 when the settlers along the Mohawk River in upstate New York started hearing “drumbeats” they knew trouble was abrewing. It was.

I am not a bloodthirsty commentator who pulls out the long knives at the first sign of “this might not be a juggernaut roster.”  Ours is NOT “a juggernaut roster.”  For 2017 ours is a “good” but NOT “very good” roster.

Every team is guaranteed one All Star.  We “might” get two if we stuff the ballot box.  If we get three, MLB needs Voter ID ASAP.

I am all for creative tinkering with the 25-man roster. I am all for suggesting Jonathan Broxton prepare immediately for his post-baseball career.

Work those telephones, Moz. Scour the waiver wires for a golden needle in the haystack.  Count up who has how many “options.”  Multiply that by Magneuris Sierra’s time from first to third.

If the uniform seamstress needs to change a few names on the St. Louis Cardinals’ uniforms… THAT’s BASEBALL.

I believe in Dexter Fowler. By mid-September Dexter will be in the high .270s… and he’ll continue playing a very solid CF.  Some of you are still pissed because you wanted Mike Trout.

A couple of fellas currently having “down years” will indeed “have down years.”  It happens.

Will Kolten Wong be “Wally Pipped” by Paul DeJong?

Will “Jhonny Go Marching Somewhere Else” soon.  If soon is the mid-season trade deadline – yes.

Will Randal Grichuk ever get Big League meal money again? Probably, but hopefully he is renting in St. Louis, with a 30-day notice lease.

This time next year will Brett Cecil be a Trivia Question?  What does Fred Bird think about Cecil?

Mike Matheny?  I like Mike.  He looks like a marine colonel.  That’s a good look to have.  I want Manager Mike to survive “this.”

Of today’s thirty MLB Managers, only SIX have won the World Series. Those six have won a total of eight.  One of those six – Bruce Bochy – has three of those eight. Bochy’s Giants are currently eleven games back in the NL-West ahead of only the woeful Padres… and TEN games under.500.  Would you fire Bruce Bochy?

Matheny is not one of those six managers who have won the World Series.  Neither is

Buck Showalter

.  Huh? Who is the most popular player in every NFL city?  The back-up Quarterback.  How does that apply here?  It doesn’t.
