Here is a look at what happened last night on the Cardinal Farm.

Memphis Redbirds (AAA)- The Redbirds pitching was outstanding again Thursday night as they finished off their series with Round Rock with a 5-0 victory. Tyler Lyons shined throwing 7 innings of 2 hit ball with a walk and 4 strikeouts. Michael Blazek finished it off throwing the final 2 innings and giving up only 1 hit. At the plate, Chad Huffman went 3-4 with 2 doubles. Kolten Wong and Jermaine Curtis also had multi-hit games last night for Memphis. The Redbirds finished up a 5 game home set last night. They’re now 51-56 on the season and tied with the Iowa Cubs for first place in the American Northern Division of the Pacific Coast League. The Redbirds now head to Round Rock where they will begin another series with the Round Rock Express Friday Night. Nick Additon will start for Memphis and he’ll face Round Rock starter Evan Meek

Springfield Cardinals (AA)- The Cardinals bats were silenced Thursday Night as they dropped the opener of a 4 game home set with the NW Arkansas Naturals by the score of 6-0. An interesting fact about the game is that the six pitchers that threw in the game (3 for NW Arkansas, 3 for Springfield) combined to strikeout 32 hitters, a Texas League record. The Naturals pitchers led by starter Kyle Zimmer threw a combined 3 hit shutout of the Cardinals. Zimmer was outstanding throwing 12 strikeouts in his 6 innings of work. Seth Blair took the loss for the Cards despite a solid 7 inning outing that included 11 strikeouts of his own. The Cards face the Naturals again Friday Night at Hammons Field in Springfield. Zach Petrick will start for the Cardinals while Brooks Pounders will start for the Naturals.

Palm Beach Cardinals (Advanced A)- It was a night that started great but ended sour for the Palm Beach Cards as the blew a 5-1 7th inning lead to lose to the Daytona Cubs 6-5 at Rodger Dean Stadium. Cardinals RF Jonathan Rodriguez went 3-4 with a double and a home run to lead the offense. Pitching wise starter Joe Cuda was solid throwing 6 innings and giving up 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 5. Robert Stock and Travis Miller came out of the bullpen and struggled though giving up a combined 5 ER in in 2 innings. Ronnie Shaban threw a scoreless 9th but the damage had already been done. Friday the Cardinals will continue their series with the Daytona Cubs. Matt Loosen will start for the Cubs, The Cardinals starter has yet to be announced.

Peoria Chiefs (A)- The Chiefs offense came up in a big way Thursday Night as they scored 8 unanswered runs en route to a 8-3 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Lead off man C.J. McElroy was the leader in the offensive category going 3-5 with 3 RBI’s. DH Trevor Martin went 3-4. Jacob Wilson went 1-5 but that one hit was a 3 run homer in the 7th inning that put the Chiefs on top for good. On the mound Chiefs starter Ben O’Shea went 6 innings giving up 3 runs on 10 hits while striking out 3 en route to his first win of the season. Relievers Joseph Scanio and Dixon Llorens combined to throw 3 shutout innings out of the pen. The Chiefs continue their set with the Kernels tonight in Cedar Rapids. Chris Perry will start for the Chiefs and he’ll face Cedar Rapids southpaw Brett Lee.
