Since Chaim Bloom joined the Cardinals in early January 2024, there has been a complete overhaul of St. Louis's front office. Bloom's inclusion on the staff throughout 2024 to provide an outside look at a dated organization. His role in 2025 was to expand the front office staff and support the players across all levels. His ascension to president of baseball operations has included a near-complete overhaul of the front office staff.

The Houston Astros poached Randy Flores on Friday afternoon from the Cardinals. St. Louis's former Assistant General Manager in charge of amateur and pro acquisition was known for his draft acumen. He drafted players like Tommy Edman, Brendan Donovan, Jordan Walker, and JJ Wetherholt, among several other players. Now, Flores will be Houston's general manager for the foreseeable future.

Flores is just one of a few former Cardinal executives who have departed since Chaim Bloom took over.

John Mozeliak announced his departure from St. Louis just over 13 months ago. Prior to Mozeliak's exit, Gary Larocque, a longtime Cardinals executive, retired following the 2024 season. This makes three former high-ranking executives for the St. Louis Cardinals who have gone elsewhere or retired since Chaim Bloom took over. Matt Slater, a former special assistant to the GM for player procurement stepped down after the 2024 season as well.

Chaim Bloom's reset of the St. Louis Cardinals front office has been refreshing for a stale organization.

Since Chaim Bloom joined the organization, there have been four key executives who have left the organization: John Mozeliak, Randy Flores, Gary LaRocque, and Matt Slater. Several additions and expansions have been made in St. Louis, though.

Anuk Karunaratne (President of Business Operations), Joe Douglas (Director, Pro Acquisition), Jacob Buffa (Senior Director, International Scouting), Carl Kochan (Director, Performance), Larry Day (Director, Player Development), Matt Pierpont (Director, Pitching), Rob Cerfolio (Assistant General Manager, Player Development & Performance) are all new faces in the front office. Some of these roles have been created to help the Cardinals catch up in the modern game.

There are also several new voices in the system that didn't exist prior to Bloom's arrival below these executives who have been instrumental in growing the organization.

While turnover has been aplenty, there remain several holdovers from the John Mozeliak era. Zach Mortimer (Director, Amateur Acquisition) has been promoted since 2024, but he has been with the Cardinals for over a decade now. Michael Girsch (Vice President and Denios Advisor) and Moises Rodriguez (Assistant General Manager) are also still on staff.

It's been difficult to see once-favored names and faces leave the Cardinals for greener grass or better opportunities elsewhere. However, the fact that executives from the Cardinals are being sought elsewhere proves that St. Louis is doing something right. It also opens up new opportunities for rising voices within the organization or outside voices coming in to positively affect the direction of the franchise.

The future of St. Louis baseball is growing on the field with players like JJ Wetherholt, Joshua Baez, and Leo Bernal. The future in the front office is also taking shape, and it's looking bright for the Cardinals.
