With pitchers and catchers reporting day getting closer, a lot of interesting names remain available for the St. Louis Cardinals when the MLB lockout ends.

While there has been little to no movement regarding the ending of the MLB lockout, teams still have many needs before heading into the 2022 season.

Once the lockout does end, teams will be looking to get those needs met before pitchers and catchers report for Spring Training. The St. Louis Cardinals are no exception and are expected to hit the ground running in an attempt to gather as much pitching help as possible. After last season’s demise of a pitching staff with high expectations, it is no surprise.

Jon Lester was a key acquisition at the July 2021 trade deadline for the Cardinals. A real innings eating, strike thrower, it was thought the club may attempt to re-sign him prior to the 2022 season. Those hopes were dashed when Lester announced his retirement from the game this week.

While the Cardinals could be in the market for another starter, it’s anticipated the team will look for more help in the area of mid to late innings relief.

With a variety of names still available for position players and pitchers, it’s fun to take a look at those names and wonder if that player would be a good fit on the Cardinals.
