After getting brought onto the St. Louis Cardinals on a one year deal, Brad Miller showed his worth for the team as he broke out in a big way.

John Mozeliak bolstered the St. Louis Cardinals’ infield depth in February when he brought in the veteran Brad Miller on a one-year deal worth two million dollars.  The team knew they were getting a great left-handed bat that could play any position on the infield as well as some outfield when need be.

The Cardinals have always seemed to be lacking a solid left-handed bat off the bench and I believe Miller could be the just the guy this team has been wanting for quite some time.  Miller is still relatively young at 30 years old and has already seen action in the MLB for six franchises.

The Orlando, Florida native played his college baseball at the University of Clemson and won the Brooks Wallace Award (top shortstop in the nation) while playing for the Tigers.  After his time at Clemson, Miller was drafted by the Mariners in the second round and eventually made his debut with Seattle in 2013.

Brad Miller broke out in a big way on Monday during the doubleheader as he ended with three huge hits where he drove in four of the seven total runs scored by the Redbirds on the day.  Along with the hits, Miller was also robbed of a base hit by Almora in the 3rd inning the first game where he lined a Kyle Hendricks pitch to center at 108.4 mph.

In the 7th inning of the first game, Brad Miller stepped into the box against Rowan Wick with the bases loaded.  He ripped a double into the left-center gap, just out of reach of the diving Almora this time and drove in two runs to give the Cardinals the 3-1 lead and eventual win.

The second game showed to be the Brad Miller show as he launched two opposite-field home runs.  Brad Miller’s first home run came in the second inning where he launched a 420 foot home run into the left-center field bleachers off of Tyson Miller.

This ball came off the bat at a scorching 106.1 mph.

The second home run from Miller was the product of some lefty on lefty crime where he goes back to back with Max Schrock (who hit his first career home run) in the 4th inning.  This ball sneaks just over the basket in left field but good enough to get one on the board.

This shot came off the bat at exactly 100.0 mph and finally landed at 367 feet from home plate.

Brad Miller seems comfortable at the plate versus lefties or righties and with his versatility, he could prove to be a valuable asset for Mike Shildt moving forward.

As they say “the best ability is availability” and if he can keep the bat hot and prove himself at multiple positions, Shildt will be left with no choice to keep Miller’s bat in the lineup.
