The St. Louis Cardinals have been downright disappointing lately but a return back to Busch Stadium could nudge the team back on track.

The St. Louis Cardinals have not been living up to expectations.

The team currently sits at a disappointing 24-23 after being 20-10 not too long ago. Even worse, they are 4.5 games out of first place and are fourth place in the NL Central. They have also gone just 3-7 in their last 10. After going 18-7 in April, they have gone just 5-13 in May.

Even worse, they have lost their last five series. FIVE.

Over and over, the biggest thing that teams preach is just to win series. If you win the majority of your series over the course of the season, the team is going to be in the playoffs by the end of the season. Losing the last five has been rough on its own, but there is an encouraging clip of evidence that may be a good sign for the team as they return home (even if just for a week) to play the Royals and the Braves.

Only two of the last five series have been at home and the team’s .609 winning percentage at home puts their .417 road win percentage to shame. So maybe this week will be different.

The 4th place Cardinals aren’t firing up the panic bus yet at things can flip back as quickly as they turned down. When the Cardinals held their 20-10 record on May 1st, they held a 3.5 game lead over the Brewers. 4.5 games feel bad but it’s not the end of the world yet. A hot two weeks and the Cardinals could be back in first place easily.

Sunday’s heartbreaker in Texas may have put the team down in the dumps but it was a gutsy comeback either way. While the team hasn’t shown any signs of going on a run starting against the Royals, but an off day can serve as a mental reset for a team. A return home might just be the jump-start the team needs, even though they need to be better on the road overall.

Don’t worry too much yet, this is just the first lul of the season for a team that has shown that when they find consistency they will be dangerous. This is a fun team to watch when everything comes together. And keep in mind, the Cubs lost a 3-game series to the Rangers earlier this year too. There’s a lot of fun left to be had this Summer.
