What needs to happen for the St. Louis Cardinals to not let Christian Yelich do any more damage? Where is Mike Shildt when Yelich gets up to the plate?

It’s absolutely stunning that the St. Louis Cardinals continue to pitch against the reigning NL MVP, Christian Yelich. He continues to rake against Cardinal pitching and the team simply scratches their heads why he continues to do damage against them. In Monday’s game, Yelich hit 3 home runs, including two 3-run home runs! Yes that’s right, three home runs.

In a game where Freddy Peralta did not have his best stuff and allowed a pair of home runs to Paul Goldschmidt and Paul DeJong, it felt like maybe, just maybe well get a must needed win against the Brewers. What needs to happen for Mike Shildt to learn to not pitch to Yelich? Does he need to hit more home runs against us? We cannot be losing these divisional games now to then haunt us later in the season.

This is becoming a scary trend in Miller Park that has to find a solution quickly. What do the Cardinal pitchers and Mike Shildt have to do? Whether it’s walking him intentionally or walking him unintentionally, the Cardinals have no other option. Many will say to be careful with how you pitch to him and don’t let anything go over the plate. The problem is that he can hit anything we give him. He has our pitchers number and he’s calling them at every at-bat.

More from St Louis Cardinals News

Yelich, impressively, in 5 games against St. Louis, has gone 9 for 16, including 7 home runs, 15 RBI’s and an OPS of 2.677. Seriously Mike Shildt, what is going on in your head, to continue to pitch to him?

The Cardinals did not get a lot of calls their way during this game, thanks to umpire Ron Kulpa, but they did score enough to win the game. The pitching and the game plan has to get better and it’s time to make the necessary moves to not let Yelich do any more damage in these important divisional games.

Mike Shildt has a lot of answers to give as to why we continue to pitch to Yelich. Honeymoon season is over. What he did last season after filling in for Mike Matheny, is in the past and over with. He needs to be asked the harsh but truthful questions. This simply cannot happen anymore.

To those who are thinking, it’s only April still and to not panic, you are wrong and need to remember that every game counts in this season against divisional opponents. And when you wonder why we missed the playoffs again, remember the name. Christian Yelich.
