The St. Louis Cardinals host an annual fantasy camp and the 2017 edition has been announced to take place at their AAA-affiliate.

The St. Louis Cardinals are renowned by MLB and fans alike for their annual fantasy camp. These camps allow fans to learn fundamental baseball tools while playing alongside St. Louis Cardinals greats.

These four-day camps teach fundamentals and involve a fantasy draft of the forty-four participants. These 44 fans will be drafted by a former Cardinals player and each team will also include a former Cardinals player as one of the active players on the field.

In addition to the teaching/learning sessions, the 44 participants (plus the two former St. Louis Cardinals) will play four games– that’s one game per day. These games will allow each of the budding baseball stars to play coached by a former Cardinal and with a former Cardinal.

The St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Camp is presented by Heartland Coca-Cola Bottling Company and the 2017 edition will feature St. Louis Cardinals greats Rick Ankiel (with whom I share a birthday– today as a matter of fact) and Kyle McClellan. The teams will be drafted by and managed by Danny Cox and Tom Lawless.

Other Cardinals greats Whitey Herzog and Willie McGee.

"“The Cardinals Fantasy Camp experience is like no other in sports and is more popular each year,” said Joe Pfeiffer, Cardinals Fantasy Camp Director. “This one-of-a-kind experience gives campers the opportunity to step on the field alongside all-time Cardinals greats and live the ultimate baseball dream as a Major Leaguer.” (Official Memphis Redbirds Press Release, 19 July 2017)"

In addition to all the great participating events, the 44 participants will receive two customized Memphis Redbirds jerseys and will use their own locker in the visiting clubhouse during the games.

More from St Louis Cardinals Prospects

The team that wins the round-robin games will receive championship rings for their efforts.

To entice participation, registration for the fantasy camp includes a 3-night stay in the DoubleTree Downtown hotel that is directly across the street from AutoZone park. Participants will be invited to a St. Louis Cardinals game on September 14 for a private reception and autograph session.

Moreover, participants will receive an invitation to a dinner and auction event on the day following the September 14 game. This event will feature one-time Cardinals manager Herzog as the guest of honor.

Campers must be 27 or old to participate and the 2017 edition will take place from September 14-17.
