St. Louis Cardinals: Gyorko scratched due to leg cramp

The St. Louis Cardinals’ third baseman has been one of the bright spots in an otherwise forgettable year so far for the team this season. Jedd Gyorko has hit to a .301/.368/.516 line this season, and is one of the leading sluggers on the team with 12 home runs so far.
Gyorko seemingly began suffering through the cramp about 4 1/2 innings into the game. Greg Garcia is tasked to take over at third base for the St. Louis Cardinals, and rookie Luke Voit will fill in at the clean-up spot where Gyorko normally bats.
This is a good opportunity for Voit, who will get to face a young right-hander in Jose Urena after facing mainly left-handed pitching like Gio Gonzalez in the majors.

Voit has maintained an excellent .400/.438/800 line over his first 16 plate appearances, so getting Voit as much big league experience as possible to further gauge his abilities and potential will be incredibly useful.
While it sucks to lose someone playing as well as Gyorko, he had hit .350 over the past two weeks.
He was a big factor in the recent offensive resurgence. Giving these young guys time to develop at the Major League level will greatly accelerate their development.

Seeing as he’s Gyorko himself called it “a little tweak” via Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post Dispatch, we should see him back in the lineup in the coming days.
