Stanley hot as Redbirds win eighth straight

Cody Stanley certainly came to play on Monday night. Stanley reached base on all four of his plate appearances which included 3 RBI’s as the Memphis Redbirds defeated the Fresno Grizzlies by a score of 5-1 and won their eighth straight game.

The scoring began in the bottom of the first inning when Matt Duffy of the Grizzlies hit an RBI single to give them an early 1-0 lead. However that lead was short lived as a Cody Stanley RBI single tied the game up at 1 in the top of the second inning. The Redbirds would not look back from there.

Stanley would pull through again in the top of the fourth inning with a two RBI double to make the score 3-1 Redbirds. An inning later, Stephen Piscotty hit a solo shot to center field for his sixth home run of the season which gave the Redbirds a 4-1 lead.  The last bit of scoring in the game would come in the top of the eighth when Ty Kelly connected on an RBI double to make it 5-1.

Winning pitcher for the Redbirds was Nick Greenwood. Greenwood pitched five innings while only giving up one run, five hits, no walks, and having five strikeouts.

Game 2 of the four game set with the Grizzlies is tonight with first pitch set for 9:05 CT. The Redbirds will be looking for their ninth straight win and to move their record to .500 on the season which seemed unlikely to happen just a few weeks ago. Tyler Lyons will be the starter for the Redbirds while Asher Wojciechowski will oppose him for the Grizzlies.
