St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Update

The Memphis Redbirds have had a rough patch as a team since the last update. Since April 16th the Redbirds have played 11 games and only won 3 of them. On April 16, the Redbirds concluded a series with the Storm Chasers in a 9-4 loss. They then went on to a four game set with the Round Rock Express where they lost 3 of 4 including a 7-4 loss on the 17th, a 5-0 win on the 18th, and 11-4 loss on the 19th, then a 4-3 loss on the 20th.

Another four game series with the Omaha Storm Chasers started on the 21st which saw a 4-2 loss on the 21st, 7-2 win on the 22nd, 6-5 loss on the 23rd, and 8-7 win on the 24th. Last night saw the beginning of a four game series with the Round Rock Express at home. The Redbirds suffered a 5-3 loss.

More from St Louis Cardinals Prospects

Dean Anna – Dean spent most of this time period in a call up stint to the St. Louis Cardinals but was sent back down just recently. Last night he had a 1 for 5 night with an RBI. On the 16th and 17th before his call up he went 4 for 5 with 2 runs. Anna currently possesses a .382 batting average with 3 RBI’s.

Xavier Scruggs – Scruggs has maintained his hitting ability going 9 for 32 since the 16th but hasn’t been able to get the long ball after starting strong. Scruggs currently sits at a .288 batting average with 13 RBI’s. Scruggs still leads the team with 4 home runs.

Pitching has struggled for the Redbirds throughout since the 16th. Tim Cooney still owns the best ERA of starters with a 3.63. Cooney also has 14 strikeouts this season. Pitching is an area where the Redbirds are looking to improve and where they need to improve to gain success.

Today the Redbirds will continue their series with the Express that will conclude on Tuesday. After that they will head to New Orleans on Thursday to begin a four game series with the Zephyrs.
