Statements were released today from St. Louis Cardinals Chairman & CEO Bill DeWitt, Jr. and Senior Vice President/General Manager John Mozeliak after Burwell died from a short battle with cancer.

“All of us in the Cardinals organization were deeply saddened to learn of Bryan’s passing. He was a good friend and true professional whom we enjoyed working with in his coverage of St. Louis sports. He will be sorely missed, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.” – Bill DeWitt, Jr., Chairman & CEO

“Bryan had a tremendous presence and was always a pleasure to work with. His energy and passion for sports will be missed. I always appreciated his banter and smile.” – John Mozeliak, Sr. V.P./General Manager

A few years ago, Burwell wrote a href=”http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/140221104X/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=140221104X&linkCode=as2&tag=thekentuckyde-20&linkId=NDF67HSSAH43ED42″>The Best St. Louis Sports Arguments: The 100 Most Controversial, Debatable Questions for Die-Hard Fans (Best Sports Arguments) (Kindle version) (Sourcebooks, 2007).

As for myself, I didn’t always read his columns but I offer my condolences to his family, friends, and readers. When I did read what he wrote, I didn’t always agree with him but it appears that I am not in the minority on that.
