The two-year extension runs through the end of the 2016 season. Their player development contract had been set to expire at the end of this season after restarting their relationship with the 2013 season.
“State College continues to provide us with excellent support of our player development goals and a first-rate training environment at all levels, including Medlar Field,” said Cardinals’ Senior Vice President/General Manager John Mozeliak in a statement. “We look forward to our continued relationship with the State College Spikes.”
Last season, the Spikes advanced to the championship series with a league-best 48-27 record. During their inaugural season in 2006, they were affiliated with the Cardinals. The Cardinals NYP affiliate had been the Batavia Muckdogs during the 2007-12 seasons before the Cardinals reunited with State College.
The Spikes currently have a 35-25 record and lead the NY-Penn League Pinckney Division under the helm of manager Oliver Marmol. Current players assigned to the Spikes include recent draft picks such as Austin Gomber, Tyler Bray, Daniel Poncedeleon, Brian O’Keefe, Danny Diekroeger,, Andrew Sohn, Collin Radack, Chase Raffield, and Nick Thompson.
