The St. Louis Cardinals got good news when Yadier Molina‘s cast got removed.

More from St Louis Cardinals News

According to St. Louis Post-Dispatch beat writer Derrick Goold, the All-Star catcher “has been outfitted with several splints” so as to allow for the increase in movement. There’s not a clear timetable at the moment for Molina’s return to the lineup.

There’s no doubt that fans would like to see Molina back catching sooner than later but patience must be exercised in Molina’s return. Should Molina be rushed back too soon, the results won’t be all that kind for the Cardinals.

In related injury news, Michael Wacha has already resumed throwing. The pitcher hasn’t thrown off the mound and is onlt throwing on flat ground. He’s advanced from throwing 90 feet away to 120 feet away. During the Cardinals next homestand, another MRI will be performed on the pitcher so as to see when he can resume throwing from the mound.

The Cardinals clearly need bench help this season. Daniel Descalso and Mark Ellis are not getting the job done.

When it comes to finding bench help, while speaking on The Morning After today, St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist Joe Strauss said: “The name I keep hearing is Alfonso Soriano.”

Is Soriano the answer? Maybe, I don’t know. Dan Buffa offers his thoughts on the matter at Arch City Sports.
