In other news, the Cardinals will have the third selection of next years Competitive Balance portion of the 2015 MLB Draft. This portion follows the compensation picks and precedes the second round of the draft. This year, the Cardinals owned a Competitive Balance pick following the second round and drafted Andrew Morales.

Shelby Miller will re-join the rotation as Carlos Martinez heads to the bullpen.

“I think we accomplished what the goal was from the beginning of ‘let’s get him some rest,'” manager Mike Matheny said in an MLB.com article. “He’s had a nice little period here to get himself right and strong and feeling good. Now we have to get him out on the mound and watch him get the consistency.”

With Kevin Siegrist being activated off the DL, Nick Greenwood was optioned to Memphis.
