It Only Takes Two Hours, Jaime And The Cardinals Tear Up The Brewers

Complete Recap

What a Friday night at Busch Stadium! Jaime Garcia turns in yet another masterful performance in his two hit, complete game appearance against the visiting Brew Crew. Lance Berkman was even given the night off after his career stats against Randy Wolf shows he bat 3-27, fortunately his services were not even needed.

The game even started for the Cardinals on a wild note. Lead off batter Ryan Theriot was hit in his left ankle in a pitch that seemed to get away from Randy Wolf. Colby singled up the middle after this and Ryan Theriot limps into second base. Tony La Russa and the trainer come out to check on Theriot but eventually decides to stay in the game under his own discretion. The next batter was Pujols and he grounded into a double play before Matt Holliday could come in with his league leading batting average and hits a double to score Ryan Theriot, 1-0 Cardinals.

The bottom of the third, Ryan Theriot singles and Colby Rasmus triples in the very next at bat to drive in the run, 2-0 Cardinals. Albert is the next batter and easily drives the run in on the strength of a sac fly back to center fielder Carlos Gomez, 3-0 is how the 3rd inning ends.

In the bottom half of the 4th, Yadier Molina leads off the inning with his second home run of the season, 4-0 Cardinals. Tyler Greene becomes the second victim to get hit by a pitch and Jaime lays down the sac bunt to send him over to third. The very next batter Daniel Descalso gets hit too, that’s three now perpetrated by Randy Wolf in the game. Next up, Colby Rasmus walks and then Albert singles to score Greene and Descalso 6-0.

Mike McClendon replaces Randy Wolf in the bottom of the 6th. Wolf gave up six runs on seven hits.

Jaime still had a perfect game going into the 8th and the pressure was on. The second batter he faced in the 8th was Casey McGehee and he walks, perfect hit over but no hitter still intact…until the very next batter. Yuniesky Betancourt singles and the no hit bid is over as well. What should have been the final out of the game was the second hit he surrenders too as Rickie Weeks doubles to keep the game alive. Carlos Gomez is the very next and last batter, he pops up to Nick Punto, Cardinals win!
