Cardinals 3 – Braves 2

Complete Recap

More Late Game Heroics Are Needed But Again The Cardinals Get The Desired Result

The Cardinals had a slow start but luckily they got it together for the last two innings to put together another win in Atlanta.

Jake Westbrook had a better day going 6 innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. The bullpen again was solid from that point on and held the Braves to just one more hit while the Cardinals offense came in to steal the game.

The 8th inning was the turning point on the day. Daniel Descalso leads off the inning with a single, Tyler Greene walks, then Nick Punto lays down a sacrifice bunt to advance the two runners to 2nd and 3rd. David Freese comes to the plate and singles providing the equalizer.

Miguel Batista takes over in this situation and holds the Braves off to allow the Cardinals to take their chance in the 9th.

Matt Holliday leads off the inning with a single, Colby strikes out and now there is one down. Gerald Laird comes to the plate and watches a passed ball thrown to McCann and Holliday takes advantage and quickly raced to second. From here, Gerald Laird went and hit a triple to left center. Watching how fast he legged this out was crazy enough, I don’t anyone thought a man of his size was that fast but he sure made it in time and recorded a triple and an RBI when Matt Holliday came in.

Fernando Salas comes on in relief and throws two straight strikeouts, walks Nate McLouth, and pinch hitter Eric Hinske flies out to Matt Holliday in left and the Cardinals cap the comeback and take game two of the series.

Tomorrow Jaime takes the mound for the final noon game of the series looking for the Cardinals first sweep of the season.
