Matt Carpenter nominated for Hank Aaron award again

Cardinals’ third baseman Matt Carpenter, has been nominated for the NL Hank Aaron award for the third straight season, according to MLB.com.

Carpenter, had quite the season. I have already talked about his great season and his potential as a postseason X-Factor. Let’s rehash that a bit in case you missed that post, Carpenter finished the season with a slash of .272/.365/.505, an OPS of .871, wRC+ of 139 according to Fangraphs (team high), and 28 homers (another team high).

This is all despite hitting .190 for the month of June with 0 homers, four doubles, and only ten runs batted in. The rough stretch that really started in May when Carpenter struggled with exhaustion and after he was taken out of the leadoff role sometime in April, in an attempt to create more offense in the second spot of the order.

For some reason manager Mike Matheny waited until July 30 to input Carpenter back into the leadoff role, where he hit .312/.389/.634 and posted an absurd 1.022 OPS, clubbing 22 of his 28 homers.

Given Matt Carpenter’s success this season, the playoffs are going to be interesting. It will also be very interesting to see Carpenter’s numbers at the end of the 2016 season.

I know there’s that Bryce Harper guy that is going to go home with a bunch of awards this season, but maybe Cardinals’ fans can get out and vote often to get Carpenter this award for once.
