St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs to kick off ESPN Sunday Night Baseball

The St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs will kick off Opening Night of the 2015 Major League Baseball season when they kick off the first airing of ESPN Sunday Night Baseball on Sunday April 5, 2015.

It was announced this morning by Major League Baseball that ESPN’s 26th Major League Baseball regular-season will open with an exclusive, national presentation of 2015 Opening Night featuring a match-up between National League Central rivals St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs taking on each other at historic Wrigley Field. The game, airing on Sunday, April 5, at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT can be seen on ESPN2. This is the third time in franchise history in which the Cardinals have kicked off the Major League Baseball season since the start of ESPN Sunday Night Baseball in 1990. The two previous times came in 1994 against the Cincinnati Reds and 2007 against the New York Mets.

Behind the microphone will be broadcaster Dan Shulman, analysts Curt Schilling and John Kruk, and reporter Buster Olney. Baseball Tonight will be airing live on-site before the game. There will be more details available in the weeks and months to come.

Because of the game on Sunday night, Monday has now been made an off-day. The two teams will play on Tuesday and Wednesday before another off-day on Thursday.
