Carlos Beltran will net the St. Louis Cardinals a draft pick during the 2014 MLB Draft but it’s a matter of whether it is in the first round or the compensation round.

According to Boston Globe baseball writer Nick Cafardo:

Meanwhile, Boston Herald Sox beat writer Scott Lauber tweets that the interest is serious:

What we currently know about the draft order for next summer is the order of the first round before all the players given qualifying offers end up on a team different from where they played this past season. The Baltimore Orioles have the 17th pick, the New York Yankees have the 18th pick, and the Boston Red Sox will have the 30th pick.

The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association held the 14th Annual Legends for Youth Dinner on Tuesday night, where Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award.

In accepting the award, the Wizard said: “The greatest gift in life is the ability to give back.”
