Cardinals at Pirates, Game 135 Thread

Scott Rovak-USA TODAY Sports

Well, after Liriano dealt with the Cardinals last night, there is yet another tie on top of the NL Central. Tonight, the Cardinals have a chance to regain their one game lead behind Lance Lynn.

Although Lynn has had a tough season, posting a 4.02 ERA, the ample run support he receives from the offense (5.41 runs per game, on average) has led him to a 13-8 record.

A.J. Burnett, Lynn’s counter part, has been good this year (3.18 ERA), but only has a 6-9 record due to the awful run support he gets (3.42 runs per game). He’s done well against St. Louis, going 2-1 with a 2.96 ERA, but his last outing was a little shaky, where he gave up 5 earned runs in just 4.1 innings.

In addition, Kolten Wong gets a start a second base tonight while Freese gets a night off. It’s always exciting to see how rookies handle themselves, and I have been particularly excited about him, so it’s good to see him getting a chance.

Tonight, the Cardinals will seek to fend off Pittsburgh and even up the series, while regaining the division lead. Let’s hope that Burnett serves up a repeat performance and the Cardinals can stop their little two game skid.

    Just . . . not . . . good. In any way.

    Sigh.

  • Ovadia

Another “almost” for Jay. It just hurts.

  • Ovadia

    What happened there . . . ?

  • Ovadia

The Cardinals are falling apart now.

  • Ovadia

Got another one out at the plate, and now it’s up to McCutchen again.

  • Ovadia

McCutchen goes down on strikes again.

  • Ovadia

    Freaking . . . . Holliday’s swings look ugly.

    • Thomas Demerath

I am putting together a piece about Johnny Mo’s lack of moves this week. I hope I am wrong…

      • Ovadia

Who would you have gone after?

        • Thomas Demerath

          Dan Haren, Danny Espinoza

          • Ovadia

            Espinoza, huh? Interesting. :)

          • Thomas Demerath

they were trying to get rid of him

          • Ovadia

Couldn’t hurt, I guess. The .158 average is slightly uninspiring, but I guess you could write that off as a result of an overly low .200 BABIP.

  • Ovadia

Jay lacks confidence on D, I wonder what’s gotten into him.

  • Ovadia

And now we get to see what Axford can do!

  • Ovadia

    No!!! He was safe.

  • Riley

    He was safe!

  • Ovadia

It’s so frustrating when they won’t give that to you. Not only can’t you get anything going, but the close plays won’t even go your way.

  • Ovadia

And McCutchen’s speed steals another one. At least Carpenter can still get hits.

  • Ovadia

    And Johnson goes down . . .

  • BobBoards

Well, you’ve gotta admit that the Cards do nothing, including losing, halfway.

  • Ovadia

I don’t like that Salas is giving up long fly balls. They’re still in the ball park . . . for now.

  • Ovadia

Another deep fly ball from Salas.

  • BobBoards

Someone tell me when it’s over. I can’t watch!

    • Ovadia

It was over in the third inning . . .

    • Ovadia

      It’s done.

  • Ovadia

Craig singles down the line. I don’t dare to hope for life.

  • Ovadia

Two outs, Craig on second, here comes Jay.

  • Ovadia

And that’s it! Goodnight, and thanks for stopping by. We’ll be back tomorrow.

  • Riley

    Have a good one!
