Joe Kelly was solid through the first four innings of the game with a no-hitter. All in all, Kelly pitched 6 innings. He allowed 3 hits, walked 4, and struck out 4 batters. Kelly picked up his 2nd win of the season as four pitchers combined for a 5-hit shutout over the Pirates.

Pitching in relief of Kelly were Seth Maness, Michael Blazek, and Edward Mujica. Maness was flawless in his one inning of relief while Blazek allowed a hit and struck out a batter. Mujica hadn’t pitched in so long that people were starting to forget he was still on the team. He made an appearance in the 9th inning last night, where he allowed one hit and struck out a batter.

The Cardinals’ barrage of 17 hits led to the game running nearly 3 and a half hours. Matt Carpenter was the only starter to not get a hit in the contest but he had a walk and an RBI on the evening. Most of the hitters had 2 hits on the night while Tony Cruz, taking over the catcher’s spot with Yadier Molina on the DL, had a 3-hit night with 2 RBIs.

The Cardinals now head to the final stop of their road trip as they take on the Cincinnati Reds.
