The Cardinals ace pitched 8 innings on Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium for his 13th win of the season. He allowed 8 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and struck out 7 batters on the day.

Wainwright was relieved by Edward Mujica, who picked up his 28th save of the season after pitching the 9th inning yesterday. Mujica allowed 2 hits in one inning.

Allen Craig did it all yesterday. In the third inning, he hit an RBI single that scored Matt Carpenter. Craig had the game-saving catch with two outs in the top of the ninth inning. With his back to the visiting bullpen, Craig jumped up and made the catch.

Also in the third inning, David Freese had a 2-RBI double that scored Yadier Molina and Craig. Thanks to Craig’s game-saving catch in the ninth inning, those 3 runs in the third inning were all that the Cardinals would need on Sunday afternoon.

Amongst qualifiers in the National League at the moment, Molina, Craig, and Carpenter are #1, #2, and #4 in batting average. Carpenter is tied with Miguel Cabrera for the overall lead for runs scored at 75 a piece.

The Cardinals are off today and resume action on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies.
