Wainwright gave the Cardinals yet another quality start. He moved to 7-3 this season with a 2.48 ERA. This is the eighth start that the pitcher has gone 7 innings or more. In 8 innings today, he allowed 12 hits, 3 runs, no walks, and struck out 5 batters.

Edward Mujica pitched the ninth inning for his 15th save of the season. He allowed 1 hit and struck out 1 batter.

Yadier Molina gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead in the first inning when he hit a two-run bomb to left field for this third home run of the season. Matt Carpenter scored on the homer.

Up 2-1 in the third inning, Molina doubled on a liner to center and drove Daniel Descalso home. After Carlos Beltran walked, Allen Craig singled home Molina.

The Royals spotted two runs in the bottom of the third, including one on a wild pitch from Wainwright. At this point, the Cardinals had a 4-3 lead.

In the fourth inning, Molina hit a sac fly to center and Pete Kozma scored.

The offense wasn’t finished in the sixth inning as Carpenter doubled and knocked in Descalso for a 6-3 lead yet.
