Joe Kelly gave the Cardinals yet another quality start and yet again got no support from his teammates as the Cubs beat the Cardinals 3-2. The offense was kept quiet after their recent surge.

The Positives

  • Skip Schumaker led off and picked up two hits. He scored one of the Cardinals runs.
  • Yadier Molina hit a single and reached base on a walk.
  • Daniel Descalso hit two singles and drove in a run.
  • The Cardinals showed a lot of patience at the plate as Schumaker, Jon Jay, Matt Holliday, Lance Berkman, and Molina all drew walks and Matt Carpenter drew two.
  • Joe Kelly pitched another quality start, going six and a third before giving up the winning run.
  • Brian Fuentes continued his scoreless streak and Barrett Browning pitched a perfect inning to close out the game.

Justin’s Jeers

  • Obviously the biggest complaint is the complete lack of offense to support Joe Kelly. He has gotten less than five runs in every start except for one.
  • Jon Jay, Matt Holliday, Carlos Beltran, Lance Berkman, and Matt Carpenter were all held hitless.
  • The Cardinals left seventeen runners on. The biggest culprits were Jon Jay and Joe Kelly who both left four runners stranded.

Three Stars

3) Joe Kelly – Kelly kept the Cardinals in the game, but the offense couldn’t seal it.

2) Skip Schumaker – Skip picked up two hits and scored one of the Cardinals runs.

1) Daniel Descalso – Descalso also had two hits and drove in a run.
