Redbird Rants Recap: 1/29/12 - 2/4/12

The talk around the St. Louis Cardinals and Redbird Rants this week has been Roy Oswalt. First he was packing his bags and well on his way. Then he met up with the Texas Rangers. The Boston Red Sox were in and out. Now the Rangers claim they are out too. Until he picks a team, passes a physical and signs, any of these teams or the “surprise” team is still in the mix. Here are the Oswalt posts for your review along with a few others from the past week.

I wrote about the Cardinals and Rangers going at it again and who would come out on top in the battle for Roy Oswalt.

Jason Evans feels the Cardinals need Oswalt as much as he needs them. He also tells us why Ozzie Smith should be a part of spring training this season.

Chris Ferguson asks if Kyle McClellan is packing his bags. McClellan is seemingly the odd man out of St. Louis if Oswalt is indeed signed.

Justin McClary continued his series covering minor league prospects, this time at the keystone position.

Dennis McHawes says enough is enough and Oswalt should sign already.

Daniel Solzman tells how the Rally Squirrel will forever live in lore fresh with its own Topps baseball card.

I’d also like to take minute to mention Redbird Rants being upgraded to the FanSided 3.0 interface. We are very excited about the new features and hope you will be too. Let us know what you think.

As always, thanks to all of our readers and for their comments this week. As for Oswalt, if a deal was going to be done it would have by now, I am willing to bet he ends up as a Red. and old Walt goes out and makes his rotation 7 deep.. Moves Chapman back to the BP.

The Cardinals are just playing games at this point> one thing Mo sure knows how to do is make a player feel like an idiot with insults, If he really wanted Roy it would already be a done deal. This game he is playing, waiting him out is nothing but pure BS> I wish Mo would just come out and say “this is what we have take it or move on” !

Granted I would not pay 10M for a good pitcher that your not sure you will even get 20 starts out of, then you make an incentive driven deal.. based on number of starts, BUT that has not even been rumored.

Many are saying management is low balling AGAIN> and they do many times. I guess Beltran is the big get for the off season..

Sick of this whole business, all starting with Albert..

Oswalt signing elsewhere right now would not be shocking at all.

It’s hard to really know what is going on inside Mo’s head. Maybe he has laid down a take or or leave it $ and Oswalt is not interested.

I agree with incentive laden contracts. They should work for each party. The team’s perspective is, “You get paid for what you produce, since we have no idea what you will produce.” And the player’s is, “I’ll prove to you my worth, by going out and dominating to earn the bonuses.”

I’m hoping something happens soon, so I can write a see ya later or welcome post.

You have no idea what is going on in these negotiations. You’ve already made up your mind who the bad guy is (Mo). When you say “Many are saying management is low balling AGAIN”, I take it you are referring to the writers who’s job it is to keep the pot stirred up. And why should Mo quote “just come out and say this is what we have take it or move on”. First of all he is negotiating with Oswalt and his agent. He’s not there to make public statements so that you can get on with your life.
