Kyle McClellan Set To Start Tonight

Kyle McClellan, one of this seasons surprise players is scheduled to return tonight in the nation’s capital.

Kyle McClellan looks to be ready to go. His recovery seems to have gone as expected after he strained his hip flexor and was placed on the DL first day of June. They have him starting tonight against the Nationals in D.C.

Much to my dismay, this means Matt Carpenter will be optioned back to Memphis for the time being. Bummer.

This season McClellan is 6-2 with 3.86 ERA and has been a huge contributor to the Cardinals success. Just to think he was battling for the fifth spot mere months ago with Adam Wainwright out. In fact Lohse, McClellan and Jaime Garcia are putting up much better numbers than the rotations money eating one and two spots in Chris Carpenter and Jake Westbrook.

Lance Lynn was called up from Memphis and did a great job, being as it was only his first stint in the bigs. He went 5.1 innings June 2nd at home against the Giants giving up five runs on four hits, after originally throwing 3 hitless innings. His second start went much better on June 9th in Houston, going 5 innings with six hits but only surrendering the one run. He is a bright mark on our expanding farm club and we can’t wait to see what else he can bring in the future on his next call up.

With McClellan coming back tonight, the Cardinals look to rebound from this current four game skid they have going. Last nights game looked to be a turning point up until Jaime was taken out of the game and Batista squandered a 4 run lead.

Leave it to the local fiery redhead to fire up the club!
