Two St. Louis Cardinals prospects were just honored as the organization’s best. Rainiel Rodriguez and Jacob Odle were named MLB Pipeline’s prospects of the year in the Cardinals’ system.

Odle on the pitching side on things, and Rodriguez on offense, of course. The Cardinals have a heap of young talent to look forward to, and these two are leading the charge.

Rodriguez, 19, was a superstar between High-A and Double-A this season. The catcher/first baseman launched 27 total home runs and finished with a .987 OPS.

According to MLB Pipeline, he slots as the Cardinals' number-one prospect. With murmurs surrounding a potential debut as early as next season (very low chance), this is just another step forward for a potential face of the franchise.

Odle, 22, is a former 14th-round draft pick in 2023. The California native had a rough start to his professional career, which included Tommy John surgery.

Since returning, he’s tapped into the prolific strikeout stuff that got him drafted. His firm fastball/curveball mix had him cruising all of 2026.

The right-hander finished with 13.4 K/9, a 3.19 ERA, and threw a career-high 96 innings. Odle truly ascended in about every way a pitcher can. He refined his control, stuff, and mentality, leading to him becoming the Cardinals' 21st-ranked prospect.

The chances of these players making an immediate impact are slim. Odle’s highest tally in innings is below the century mark, and Rodriguez isn’t old enough to legally drink. With that, it’s in the Cardinals' best interest to take it slow and refrain from hasty decisions.

In an interview I conducted with Odle a few months ago, he mentioned differences in player development since Chaim Bloom took over. Without discrediting his former staff, he made it clear: these guys know exactly how to get the most out of their players.

Those same coaches that Odle reveres are giddy about the teenage phenom Rodriguez. In a recent episode of the DealintheCards podcast, Joshua Jacobs had farm director Larry Day on, who compared Rodriguez’s work ethic to that of Guardians’ superstar Jose Ramirez.

With these two, the Cardinals have very exciting talent on the horizon. It’s only a matter of time until we have “The Hulk” blasting Big Mac Land bombs and Odle ringing up Jackson Chourio with high heat to end an inning.
