Late Wednesday evening, the St. Louis Cardinals issued a statement to FOX 2 News St. Louis regarding an accident that star shortstop Masyn Winn was involved in, with the team sharing that Winn was safe after the scary incident. Here is the full statement from the Cardinals that Martin Kilcoyne shared on X Wednesday evening:

"Following today's game, Masyn Winn was involved in a single-car accident on Int 64/40 due to wet pavement.  Masyn, who was alone in the vehicle, was attended to by local police and Cardinals security and medical staff. He was examined at nearby hospital and suffered no serious injuries.
We are grateful that he is ok, and thank the first responders in our community who helped
Masyn tonight."

Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn is safe following a single-car accident on Wednesday

No other information has been given at this time, but the situation will be updated as more updates are made available.

Winn made headlines earlier in the day after a walk-off base hit in the bottom of the 11th inning secured a series win for the Cardinals at Busch Stadium over the New York Mets, and the club is slated to have an off-day on Thursday before traveling to Detroit for a three-game series against the Tigers.

The fact that Winn was safe following the accident and no other people were involved is a huge sigh of relief. It sounds like various Cardinals staff and first responders in St. Louis were able to aid Winn after the accident, which is a huge testament to their support in the community.

Winn is arguably the face of the Cardinals' franchise right now. Any time someone is involved in an accident, it's a big deal, but that is especially true when it involves a franchise cornerstone and a leader on the team.

We'll continue to monitor this situation over the coming days. The good news is that everyone is okay, but I'm sure there will be more comments made in the aftermath regarding what happened.
