MLB Network host Greg Amsinger predicted the time and place of Cardinals legend Albert Pujols’ 700th home run — in April.

This is, quite honestly, the best prediction in baseball history. If there’s one better than this, I have not yet found it. Because MLB Network analyst Greg Amsinger correctly predicted the time AND place of St. Louis Cardinals legend Albert Pujols’ 700th career home run — all the way back on April 13.

That’s right. April 13!

In a viral clip posted by MLB Network, Amsinger said: “He’s going to hit his 700th career home run on the road. Friday night in Los Angeles in September.”

Amsinger added: “Albert’s going to play so much more than people think. … He’s a draw and he’s going to be productive. He’s going to reach 700 career home runs. … Friday night in September off Clayton Kershaw. That’s when it’s going to happen, against his former teammate. Hall of Famer vs. Hall of Famer.”

Pujols, of course, did not hit No. 700 against Kershaw. It came against right-hander Phil Bickford, who hung a slider over the plate for Pujols to smash into the left field bleachers. So Amsinger didn’t get it totally right. But the fact that he called the exact date, location AND team that Pujols would reach the milestone against is … wow.

Amsinger was also spot on about Pujols playing a large role for the Cardinals this season. Without him, it’s difficult to imagine where they would be. He’s been instrumental at first base and against left-handed pitching, with Pujols slashing .265/.338/.530 with an .868 OPS, 21 home runs and 58 RBI this season.

When the Cardinals signed Pujols to a one-year deal this winter, most thought it was based on nostalgia. Honestly, I thought that was a key piece of it, too. But Pujols has been brilliant this season and now that he’s reached 700 career home runs, his next goal will be to help guide the Cardinals on a deep postseason run.

Just like 700 home runs, you can’t rule anything out.
