6 standouts in Cardinals sweep of Yankees

Yadier Molina returns as needed leader and cheerleader
After a month away, Molina has been getting back in his groove and was the leader the Cardinals had been missing, always cheering on his teammates, pumping them up and keeping his pitchers calm in some exciting moments.
On Friday, Molina got the scoring started for the Cardinals as he singled on a ground to centerfield, scoring Nolan Arenado.
On Sunday, Molina paired with Adam Wainwright for their 318th start as battery mates, getting them a step closer to the 324 starts from Detroit Tigers battery mates Mickey Lolich and Bill Freehan.
Wainwright and Molina worked 4 innings, giving up eight hits, four walks and six earned runs. He did strike out five batters and induced nine swings and misses. The pair suffered through some questionable calls from home plate umpire Ed Hickox.
Chris Stratton earned his sixth win of the season, now 6-4 on the season, after pitching 1.2 innings, giving up six hits and two earned runs. He did strike out four batters and induced four swings and misses.
After work from Hicks and Packy Naughton, Ryan Helsey pitched 1.1 innings giving up a home run to D.J. LeMahieu. Helsley did strike out one and induced two swings and misses.
Molina had his 1,000th career hit at Busch III. Molina scored in the second inning of Sunday’s game thanks to a sacrifice fly to center field off the bat of Paul Goldschmidt.
