Jordan Montgomery had spectacular debut for Cardinals

In his first start for the Cardinals, Montgomery had to face his former team. That is a rough ask. But Montgomery stepped up, looking great against the team he was with just a week prior.

During one point in the game, the training staff had to visit Montgomery on the mound as he was suffering from the heat and humidity of a St. Louis summer. It looked concerning, but trainers got Montgomery some liquid and vitamins and he seemed good to go.

Montgomery pitched five innings, givingup two hits, a walk and one strike out. He induced six swings and misses.  He is now 4-3 on the season.

Jordan Hicks pitched 1.1 innings of relief, giving up one walk and striking out three. He induced five swings and misses. He had a max velocity of 101.6 mph. Genesis Carbera pitched 1.2 innings of relief, walking one.

Giovanny Gallegos pitched an inning of relief, earning his 11th save of the season. He struck out two batters in the effort. He did induce four swings and misses.
