No. 5: Tommy Edman

After becoming a staple of the Cardinals everyday lineup over the last few seasons, questions surrounded Tommy Edman after a slightly disappointing 2021 season. Not only has he proven those doubters wrong in 2022, he is now considered one of the best players in baseball.

Edman is slashing .270/.340/.395 with 7 HR, 32 RBI, and 19 SB in route to what appears to be his first All-Star nod. Edman’s defense continues to be Gold Glove caliber at both shortstop and second base, contributing to his 4.3 WAR which is 3rd in all of baseball. Some questioned whether moving Edman to shortstop would hurt his value, but he once again proved any critics wrong.

Edman is a two time Gold Glover with versatility all over the diamond, a career .736 OPS, and one of the best base runners in the league. Having not even reached arbitration yet, he is one of the best values in all of baseball and will continue to be for another few seasons.

The switch-hitting Cardinals shortstop has all of the tools to be an impact player for years to come. With elite defense and base running, and a bat that now holds its own with the best at his position, Edman has become one of the most valuable assets of the Cardinals roster.
