The Good

The Cardinals looked great against Marlins pitcher Jesus Luzardo on Tuesday and were able to stay in the game Wednesday against Sandy Alcantara.

On Tuesday, the Cardinals were able to get a full team effort. The Gold Glove defense looked great. They got hits from Paul DeJong and Tommy Edman. Edman’s triple brought an epic dash home from Albert Pujols.

Adam Wainwright looked great in his second win of the season, and the relief pitchers looked good in keeping the Marlins out of the game.

On Wednesday, the pitching staff did amazing work in shutting the Marlins out. Miles Mikolas pitched five innings, giving up four hits but striking out five. Rookie reliever Andre Pallante had a shut down two innings of work, striking out three batters.

Manager Oli Marmol had this to say about Pallante:

The Cardinals having these two pitch so dominantly was key.

It took until the final inning for that good work to pay off. With Anthony Bender on the mound for the Marlins, Nolan Arenado hit his fifth home run of the season to left-center, scoring Tyler O’Neill.

The Cardinals looked good in these two games. Hopefully, these are the two games that the Cardinals remember from this series.
