Star prospect Jordan Walker is drawing rave reviews at St. Louis Cardinals camp, adding to what has already been a crazy last 365 days of hype.

The major-leaguers may not be at St. Louis Cardinals spring training, but the minor-leaguers are. And just when you thought it wasn’t possible for the Jordan Walker hype couldn’t get any louder, he has once again proved us wrong.

Walker, 19, is dazzling in front of his teammates, with teammate Masyn Winn saying via MLB.com: “The dude is 19 years old and he’s making grown men look childish. I mean, for him, it’s just different because he’s so big and his approach is so simple”

Wynn, also 19, would know. He’s been around Walker since they played travel ball and in high school together. His praise echoes what has been an incredible past 365 days for Walker, who has dominated headlines, and emerged as an almost-consensus top prospect in the Cardinals’ farm system that includes Nolan Gorman and Matthew Liberatore.

After signing a $2.9 million bonus following the 2020 MLB Draft, Walker hit .317 and sluggled .548 while hitting 14 home runs with 48 RBI in 82 games in Single-A. His ceiling, at least offensively, is astronomically high – and it’s fair to say that he might be the Cardinals’ most hyped prospect since Albert Pujols.

Where Walker’s future is unclear is defensively, with his future being anywhere from first base to corner outfield to designated hitter. The worst-case scenario would be DH – the organization wants him in the field somewhere – and having him in that role would limit his impact.

Next. Should the Cardinals bring back Albert Pujols and Matt Carpenter?. dark

But from an offensive standpoint, the Cardinals believe they have a future superstar. He has the ability to be the face of the franchise for a decade after he debuts in 2022. And based on what the Cardinals have seen so far in camp, Walker appears ready to live up to those expectations, which continue to get loftier by the day.
