Who has the best fastball on the St. Louis Cardinals? Bleacher Report says it’s left-handed reliever Genesis Cabrera.

Bleacher Report recently ranked the top-25 fastballs in baseball and coming in at No. 25 was St. Louis Cardinals reliever Genesis Cabrera.

On their scale, Cabrera’s fastball earned 94.4 points. He uses it 44.7 percent of the time and it averages out to 97.6 mph while opponents are averaging just .164 against it with 44 strikeouts. Here’s more of what B/R had to say about his fastball:

“The southpaw actually had reverse platoon splits, limiting right-handed hitters to a .178 average and .550 OPS with his full arsenal,” wrote Bleacher Report.

Cabrera, 25, was the only Cardinals player listed in the top-25 rankings. He is coming off a season in which he appeared in 71 games, a new career high, while posting a 3.73 ERA and 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings. There were ups and downs throughout the season, of course, with the lowest of lows losing all control on the mound against the Philadelphia Phillies before hitting Bryce Harper in the face.

To his credit, Cabrera bounced back, and now figures to be an important part of the Cardinals’ bullpen alongside Alex Reyes, Giovanny Gallegos and one or two free-agent additions. Perhaps noteworthy is that Brad Boxberger, rumored to be a Cardinals free-agent target, is listed at No. 19 on this list while the top-3 players are all Milwaukee Brewers (Corbin Burnes, Freddy Peralta and Josh Hader).

The Cardinals, meanwhile, feature two players – Adam Wainwright and Steven Matz – with two of the top sinkers in baseball, with Wainwright ranking the highest (8th). And they’ll certainly need all hands on deck, both from the starters and relievers, to not just compete with the Brewers, but for the National League in Wainwright and Yadier Molina’s final season in baseball.
