Cardinals: Adam Wainwright dunks “clown” at state fair
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright dunked a “clown” at the state fair, showing he’s ready for spring training.
Pitchers and catchers don’t report until February, but St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright has already resumed throwing … and dunking someone in the dunk tank at the state fair.
Yes, you read that right. Wainwright posted this video on Twitter on Sunday night, going viral and calling the person he dunked a “clown.”
It continues the baseball community getting to further see Wainwright’s personality just months after he was part of FOX’s broadcast team for the postseason. He was fantastic, drawing comparisons to being the baseball version of Tony Romo, and was viewed as likely to have a post playing-career gig. The more he shows his personality, however, the more likely that becomes.
At this point, Wainwright is a near-lock to have a broadcasting career when he eventually retires. For now, however, he will pitch one more season for the Cardinals and if the dunk tank video is any indication, his arm is in midseason form. Which is great news for the Cardinals, who needed Wainwright in the worst way last season — and he couldn’t have come up any bigger for them in 2022.
Without him, the Cardinals do not make the playoffs. He was their ace, posting a 3.02 ERA in 31 starts in his age-40 season, and helped the team overcome the numerous injuries to the rotation. Signing him became their top priority and, with him and Yadier Molina back for one final season, it should maximize their chances of competing for a World Series next season.
And if his dunk tank video is a sign of things to come, Wainwright looks ready to pick up where he left off in 2021.
