My thoughts on Sosa and 2022.

I believe the Cardinals will take advantage of the free agent market and pursue and sign a shortstop. I also believe Paul DeJong and the remainder of his contract will be moved.

Moving DeJong and signing a free agent shortstop also seems to be the view of Katie Woo of The Athletic and Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com. Woo sums it up best when she says, “as exciting as Sosa has been to watch, the shortstop free agent market is far too intriguing to ignore.”

What about Edmundo Sosa? I believe he will return to St. Louis in 2022 and be part of the bench. His ability to move around the infield and his pre-arbitration salary will be the deciding factors to keep him in St. Louis.

Sosa has proved to the Cardinals his potential. Defensively, he has shown he can handle the shortstop, second, and third.

All he really needs to improve upon, is his pinch hitting.  If he can do that, Edmundo Sosa will be part of an improved Cardinal bench in 2022.
