Sosa as trade bait.

Teams across Major League Baseball have now gotten a good look at Edmundo Sosa. He would be an improvement over many shortstops currently in baseball. In fact, Sosa’s OAA of 5 ranks behind only 10 shortstops in MLB.

Also, Sosa being pre-arbitration eligible would make him a cost effective piece for a team looking to keep their payroll under control. In other words, he’s still cheap.

Whether as a starter, or a flexible bench piece for a roster, Sosa would have some value on the trade market.

Taking this into account, the Cardinals are needing to make improvements with the roster across the board. Putting a trade package together which includes a now more attractive Edmundo Sosa, becomes an real option for the Cardinals front office.
