The St. Louis Cardinals have a rich tradition of winning baseball and superstars of the highest level. Which players on this year’s roster have a chance to represent the Redbirds at the All-Star Game?

The St. Louis Cardinals have one of the best records in the National League this season. Along with team success comes individual recognition, and as the calendar has turned to June, it’s almost time to start voting for the 2021 MLB All-Star Game.

Can you name the last Cardinal to represent the team in the Midsummer Classic? There were no All-Stars last season, so you have to go back to 2019. For the first time since 2007 (Albert Pujols) and only the third time in the last 20 years (Matt Morris in 2002), the St. Louis Cardinals had only one player elected to the All-Star Game. The answer? Shortstop Paul DeJong.

On the current roster, nine players have been elected to the game. DeJong and Miles Mikolas have each gone once, Carlos Martinez, Adam Wainwright, and Andrew Miller (with the Yankees in 2016, and Cleveland in 2017)  have been elected twice, and Matt Carpenter has represented the Cardinals three times. Paul Goldschmidt is a six-time All-Star, Nolan Arenado has been an All-Star in every one of the eight seasons he has been in the big leagues, and Yadier Molina has been to an incredible nine All-Star Games (last in 2018).

Which of these nine have a chance to go back to the big stage? How many newcomers could the Cardinals send to Colorado this July? Remember, with All-Star voting it’s not just who leads the league in home runs, strikeouts, or WAR. Market size, name recognition, and track record go a long way. With that in mind, let’s take a look at who on the St. Louis Cardinals deserves an All-Star nod, and who has a real chance of getting one.
