The St. Louis Cardinals are starting their spring training slate of games on Sunday and though they won’t all be on television, half will.

It won’t be a normal spring training, but any spring preceding a 162-game season is a welcome sight for St. Louis Cardinals fans.

In a normal year, the Cardinals play around 30 spring games before heading back North for the regular season. As a precaution for COVID-19, that number has been cut down to just 24 games this year.

Per usual, half the spring games will be shown on Fox Sports Midwest, starting with the 12:05 PM start on Sunday to kick off the slate of games.

While Fox Sports Midwest will only bear that name for a little while longer, it wouldn’t be right to skip giving the station one last spring with Cardinals games.

In the coming months, FSMW will switch to Bally Sports Midwest as Sinclair Broadcast Group sold the rights to the RSN’s to Bally Sports. For viewers, things may not change too much except for the old lockouts staying true.

While just 12 of the 24 games will be televised, 18 of them will be broadcast on KMOX Radio with the other six games being broadcast on the radio of the away team.

At this point, it’s almost sad that all spring games won’t be available on television, but there could be a rights issue fans don’t know about that limits the allowed number of games to half.

Either way, having 12 games to watch is better than nothing.

Next. Jack Flaherty already tabbed for Opening Day. dark

Fans already learned on Thursday that Jack Flaherty would be taking the bump on Sunday to start the year, beginning the excitement. Even more exciting is the prospect of seeing Nolan Arenado in a Cardinals uniform for the first time.
