The offense may have been a weak point for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2020, but they still hit some moonshots. What were the five longest homers of 2020?
2020 was not the year of the bat for the St. Louis Cardinals. Finishing their COVID-19-shortened schedule of just 58 games at 30-28, the team made the playoffs before being kindly escorted to the offseason by the San Diego Padres just three games later.
As much as the 2020 season may not have enthralled fans, it was clear that the players were playing hard even without fans in the stands. At the end of the day, the 58-game sample was a tough stretch to judge the Cardinals on, but the judgement returned the same verdict that had been found for the past three seasons: good run prevention, but the offense still holds the team back.
While it’s difficult to be too hard on the St. Louis Cardinals because of their rigorous schedule, they were last in the MLB in homers hit with just 51. Even though they played two fewer games than every team except the Tigers, it’s hard to argue that two more games would’ve put the Cardinals any higher than last as the Diamondbacks were the next closest team with 58 homers hit.
Despite the gross lack of power displayed this year, there were still moonshots hit and fun moments to remember. The year that was 2020 is almost over, so let’s try and end it with a smile. To do that, let’s look back at the five longest homers of 2020.
