With Milwaukee closing the gap on the St. Louis Cardinals lead in the NL Central crown, Redbird fans have started to fear the worst (i.e. the Wild Card game, possibly against Max Scherzer or Stephen Strasburg). As I write this, it is 5-1 Brewers out in Cincinnati.

I would love nothing more than to be proven wrong, but for now, I believe the Cardinals are doomed. Here are my reasons why.

1) Deja vu, 2019. 2018 ended with a Brewers stretch where they won their last seven games, eventually tied Chicago into forcing a 1-game playoff and won the division.

2) The Chicago Cubs. They might be out of the playoffs, but do you honestly think spoiling St. Louis’ chance of a divisional title wouldn’t be on their mind as they come to Busch?

3) Blown leads. In 6 out of the last 13 games, the Cardinals have lost the lead. Yes, they came back and won some of those games, but we have to be more consistent.

May the baseball gods prove me wrong, and St. Louis be crowned 2019 NL Central Champions.
